Facial Rejuvenation

What is Korean Facial Rejuvenation?
In what is sometimes called an "acupuncture face-lift," your body's natural restorative ability is harnessed through the use of very fine needles applied to the face, scalp and neck. Our expert is certified in the Korean-style F.A.C.E. system of facial rejuvenation, which helps to relax muscle tension, smooth lines, gently promote collagen production and stimulate healthy circulation and lymphatic flow. This treatment may also benefit those who suffer muscle tics, tension headache, TMJ, dermatological conditions, and muscle weakness. Patients of all ages experience both immediate and cumulative effects that help them look and feel their best.

We currently offer two types of sessions - the 60-minute Lite session which offers the complete F.A.C.E. protocol and abdominal heat pack; and the 90-minute Pro session which includes the F.A.C.E. protocol, an abdominal heat pack, plus a specialty Korean sheet mask and rejuvenating body acupuncture points.

What is a session like?
A session involves the placement of many tiny needles around the face, neck and scalp. They are the very smallest and highest quality needles available, in order to minimize discomfort. A single session might use 50 needles on the face, scalp and neck. Many of these are so small and shallow that they will not be felt, though some will be inserted more deeply in order to achieve the needed effects of stimulating ligaments, relaxing muscle tissue and building tone.

It takes approximately 20-30 minutes to carefully administer the needles. You will then rest and relax for 20-30 minutes before they are removed. Sessions may also involve the optional placement of an abdominal heating pad (
there is a close connection between the abdomen and in the face according to Eastern medicine theory); a Korean sheet mask; and stimulation of acupuncture points on the arms and legs to further support the health of the face, neck and scalp.

Are there any side effects?

The F.A.C.E. style of Korean Facial Rejuvenation is extremely safe. The treatment may occasionally cause a visible bruise on the face, usually small (less than 1") and light enough to cover with makeup. Your practitioner is trained in methods to avoid or minimize bruising, but they are sometimes unavoidable. Therefore please do not receive this treatment immediately before any important events! We recommend light massage and the application of arnica gel in the case of a bruise. The possibility of bruising is why this procedure is contraindicated for those who take blood thinning medication. Drinking alcohol in the hours before your session is also discouraged since it will exacerbate any bruising.
How should I prepare?
We recommend wearing a loose fitting top and pants that can roll to the knee. If you do not come in appropriate dress we can provide drape covers. You will be asked to remove makeup and wash your face before your session. You may do so at home beforehand, or we will provide hypoallergenic face wash, lotion, makeup remover and a towel. (Feel free to bring your own favorite products.) Please do not drink alcohol in the hours before your session. Eat something beforehand if you're at all prone to light-headedness or hypoglycemia.

Is it painful?
Since the face is a sensitive area, you may sometimes feel needle sensations that can cause mild discomfort during this procedure, such as: “pinch” or “pluck,” usually on the skin surface; “twinge,” “ache,” or “electrical” feeling, usually from tension in the fascia or muscle. For many, these sensations are negligible, though tolerance varies a great deal by individual. Your practitioner will share hand signals with you so that you can communicate the need for any adjustments during the process.

During your session, focus on relaxing any tension you feel in the face, jaw and neck. This helps a lot to minimize any feelings of discomfort.

It can feel a little "intense" to have many needles in the face so your practitioner will be happy to ease you into the process by doing fewer needles the first time, or any time, upon request. Maximum results will be achieved by receiving the full F.A.C.E. needling protocol, so this is encouraged if well-tolerated. Our priority is for you to have a positive experience!

What kind of results can I expect?
Facial acupuncture is safer and gentler compared to some alternatives, and relies on your body’s natural healing response. This means its impact will tend to be more gradual and subtle than the immediate, dramatic impact that can be seen with Botox, fillers, and cosmetic surgery. However, acupuncture offers a wonderful self-care alternative to aggressive, invasive procedures.

Immediate results from facial acupuncture can be seen from the relaxation of muscles which helps to reduce the appearance of creases and lines and improve facial symmetry. The stimulation of blood and lymph circulation tends to help reduce puffiness and improve the quality of skin tone, giving the skin a tighter and more lustrous appearance.

Cumulative benefits can include the further smoothing of creases and lines, improvement of tone and longer-lasting reduction of asymmetry, puffiness or uneven skin tone as collagen rebuilds and new muscle tension patterns develop.

Preventative benefits should also be pointed out. By keeping facial muscles relaxed and the skin and fascia well-nourished, wrinkles, under-eye bags and other issues can be avoided in the future.

A facial acupuncture session can also benefit some medical conditions related to facial muscles and circulation, such as muscle tics/twitches,
skin conditions, headache, and TMJ, and even sinus problems.

Individual results will vary based on age, current condition, diet, lifestyle and other factors. For best results we recommend good sleep, hydration, healthy digestion, stress management, regular exercise, and a nutrient-rich diet. Eating foods rich in Vitamin C are helpful for collagen formation.
